About the People First Bank Visa Credit Card

People First Bank is the customer-owned bank formed when Heritage Bank and People’s Choice merged. It now offers a single credit card: a no-frills Visa with a low ongoing rate and a short intro offer. It replaced the Heritage Gold Low Rate card, which is no longer offered.

The intro rate works differently from most balance transfer deals. Instead of 0% on transfers plus a fee of a few percent, you pay a low rate on everything (transfers, purchases and cash advances) for the first 6 months, and each transfer costs a flat $1.50. After that the ongoing purchase rate applies, and it is one of the lower ones we track.

As a rough guide, moving $5,000 and paying it off evenly over the 6 months costs about $45 in interest and fees. A 0% card with a 3% transfer fee would cost $150 up front. The longer 0% cards win if you need more than 6 months.
