Best Qantas Credit Cards Australia (2026)

Bonuses, earn rates and fees compared on verified data. Last verified: 01/09/2026

Rates can change without notice. Last verified: 01/09/2026 (AEST). Please confirm details on the bank’s official page.

Four cards in our comparison earn Qantas Points directly, one more can reach Qantas through an optional program, and several popular rewards cards cannot get there at all. That last part trips people up: a big points balance is worthless to a Qantas flyer if the program never converts. Every figure below comes from our verified data, checked against official sources and shown with a last verified date.

Our Top Picks for 2026

American ExpressQantas American Express Ultimate

1.25 ptsper $1 on everyday spend

Pros

  • Highest everyday Qantas earn rate in our comparison
  • Higher again on Qantas products and services
  • Travel credit and lounge perks included

Cons

  • Amex acceptance still trails Visa and Mastercard at some merchants

Best value in year one

ANZFrequent Flyer Black

130,000points plus cashback

Pros

  • Cashback offsets much of the first year fee
  • Achievable initial spend target
  • Lounge passes and travel insurance included

Cons

  • Highest ongoing annual fee among the cards we track
  • Earn rate halves past the statement period spend cap

Not a Qantas card by default, but CommBank's Smart Awards has an optional Qantas program that switches every purchase to earning Qantas Points directly. Indirect Paths, and the Cards That Never Get There

The CommBank Smart Awards earns its own Awards points by default, but an optional Qantas program ($90 a year) switches every purchase to Qantas Points at published rates. See our review for the earn table. St.George Amplify cardholders can ask for the Amplify Qantas program on the same account, though the bank does not publish its earn rates on the card page, so compare carefully before switching.

Just as important is knowing which points can never become Qantas Points. NAB Rewards points cannot be redeemed for Qantas Points (NAB's Qantas path is the separate NAB Qantas Rewards Signature, covered above), Westpac Altitude points transfer to Velocity and other partners but not Qantas, and Velocity native cards are a different airline entirely. If Qantas Points are the goal, pick a card that earns them directly rather than planning to convert later.

How to Choose

1. Bonus chasers and long haulers want different cards

If you reassess your card every year or two, the welcome bonus is nearly all that matters, so take the biggest one you can qualify for. If you keep a card for many years, the everyday earn rate compounds past any bonus. The table above shows both so you can pick your lane.

2. Check the eligibility exclusions first

Most bonuses exclude anyone who held a card from the same rewards program in the previous 12 to 24 months. Read the exclusion window on the review before applying, because a declined bonus still leaves you with the annual fee.

3. Mind the earn caps

Every direct Qantas card here reduces its earn rate past a spend threshold, monthly or yearly. High spenders should compare the caps on each review, not just the headline rate.

4. Only ever pay in full

Rewards cards carry high purchase rates. Carrying a balance for even a few months costs more than a year of points earning is worth. If that risk is real for you, a low rate card is the better choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which credit card has the biggest Qantas Points bonus?

As of 01/09/2026, the Westpac Altitude Qantas Black has the largest Qantas welcome offer in our comparison at up to 150,000 bonus Qantas Points. Bonuses carry spend targets and eligibility rules, so check the conditions on our review before applying.

Which card earns Qantas Points fastest on everyday spending?

The American Express Qantas American Express Ultimate has the highest everyday earn rate of the direct Qantas cards we track, at 1.25 Qantas Points per $1. Most bank issued Qantas cards earn less than half that on everyday purchases, so the ongoing rate matters more than the bonus if you keep a card for years.

Can I earn Qantas Points with a NAB or CommBank rewards card?

Not with a NAB Rewards card: NAB is explicit that NAB Rewards points cannot be redeemed for Qantas Points. NAB's dedicated Qantas card is different: the NAB Qantas Rewards Signature earns Qantas Points directly and is included in our comparison above. CommBank's Smart Awards card has an optional Qantas program for $90 a year that earns Qantas Points directly on purchases instead of Awards points.

Do Qantas Points earned on credit cards expire?

Qantas Frequent Flyer points expire after 18 months without any earning or redemption activity on your account. Points earned monthly from a credit card count as activity, so an active Qantas card keeps your whole balance alive.

Are Qantas credit cards worth the annual fee?

Usually only in year one, and only if you clear the balance monthly. The welcome bonus is where most of the value sits, so weigh the bonus and perks you will actually use against the fee. If you ever carry a balance, the interest on these cards will outweigh any points value, and a low rate card is the better tool.
